Asli & Ali Basman

In 2016, Ali Basman was head of Kavaklidere – a Turkish family-owned wine producing company since 1929, and the leader on its market with nearly 650 ha of vineyards – when he decided to put the know-how acquired over four generations to the test in Bordeaux’s vineyards.

And so began Maison Kavaklidere’s adventure in the Castillon region.

Introduction

The specific features of the Château La Croix Lartigue terroir include its well-oriented slopes, the quality of its eight hectares of deep limestone soil that imbues the wine with its powerful character, and the surface layer of gravel in the southern part of the vineyard. These features are all part of what helps the estate to stand out in its appellation.

With an average age of over 40 years, the vineyard is planted primarily with Merlot, supplemented by Cabernet Franc.

Château La Croix Lartigue is the expression of the outstanding minerality of the terroir.

Philosophy

Respect for the soil and the grape is central to our approach, as is evident in our use of sustainable viticulture. We do not use herbicides, and cereals and pulses are grown to provide better soil oxygenation and serve as a natural fertilizer.

Our plot-based vinification ensures a precise approach based on the quality of each vat, with a complex winemaking process that shines a light on the terroir’s energy and minerality.

Our appellation is proof that remarkable yet still relatively-unknown terroirs exist, where great wines can be produced, and of which we have the immense privilege of being one of.
